A web-based metadata catalogue, with software protocols and documentation, conforming to FAIR data infrastructure principles.
It will enable exposome researchers to make a quick assessment of all the cohort data available from LongITools and its suitability to answer specific research questions.
The LifeCycle data catalogue is being used as the basis to create the LongITools data catalogue and will be expanded on. To make the data interoperable, the cohort data available will be mapped to standard variables ready for analysis and harmonised into common formats. Collaborations are in place with many other initiatives to ensure optimal FAIR-ness, i.e., to make data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable, notably ESFRIs BBMRI-ERIC and ELIXIR, H2020 projects EUCAN-connect, LifeCycle, RECAP, CINECA, ATHLETE, IMI project Conception, and Canadian harmonisation institute Maelstrom. The catalogue software is free and open source, available for other projects to reuse, as part of the MOLGENIS software platform.
Linked to the catalogue, the data will be made accessible to researchers, in a controlled and privacy protecting way using the DataSHIELD framework. This enables a consolidated analysis of the cohort data, whilst ensuring security and legal compliance in using the data. DataSHIELD was developed as part of the EU FP7-funded BioSHARE project and is used in the LifeCycle and EUCAN-Connect projects amongst others.
By bringing together all existing networks and cohorts, in one open science platform for FAIR data deposition, data harmonisation and federated data access with a shared governance framework, we will ensure better data reuse and increased benefit to scientific communities.
