About Erasmus MC
Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam, is in the top ten best medical institutes in Europe (QS World University Ranking 2014). It excels in various research fields, studying fundamental and clinical domains as well as public health and prevention. The Department of Paediatrics is part of Erasmus MC – Sophia Children’s Hospital and runs the Generation R Programme, which is focused on life-course health and includes two population-based cohorts: Generation R (10,000 children included largely during pregnancy, born 2002-2006) and Generation R Next (5,000 children expected to be included preconceptionally or during early pregnancy, born 2018-2020). The Department of Epidemiology runs the Rotterdam Study, a population-based cohort of almost 20,000 adult and elderly participants.

Erasmus led work package 4, which studied the role played by early-life exposures to air and noise pollution and the built environment in childhood cardiometabolic health trajectories.
